The Flock

    Filter

Meet our flock of lamb and wool producing sheep. Our flock is part of what is called an upbreeding program of Valais Blacknose Sheep. What this means is that we are working our way up to purebred sheep, generation by generation. We started with a flock of foundation sheep which are sheep with little to no Valais Blacknose Genetics. They bred with a purebred Valais Blacknose ram and we got our first generation of crossbreeds. Each year our lambs are a bit higher in percentage of Valais. Each summer to fall, we place our lower percentage ewes and all the boys into pet and breeder homes. We don't produce lambs for meat, and hope to be able to continue finding homes each year. This gives us a great opportunity to mentor other up and coming breeders. It's always very sad to say goodbye as we get about 2-4 years with our girls before they work themselves out of a job at our ranch. With our limited space it is how it has to go but we are very proud to say that we've found wonderful homes for all of our girls and boys so far!
